The Poster that was Signed

Today I begin my research to find a buyer for an elusive poster that was recently found at my work. This poster is unique in that it is signed by the artist, Man Ray. Normally a museum does not auction off a peice of it's collection, but this case is unique. The staff and board were completely unaware of its exsistence in our collection and it has not been accessioned (officially numbered) into the collection. It is being sold simply because a poster is not a "museum appropriate" object to accession into a collection. It seems more appropriate to sell the peice to a collector and use the profit of the sale for purchasing objects that would add to our collection. This makes my new assignment rare, unique, intriguing and, to me, incredibly fun and fascinating.

Man Ray was an American Modernist painter and photographer that lived in Paris in the early 1900s. This artist continues to be a big deal throughout the art world today known most noteably for his photography (I was destined to deal with this poster somehow as I wrote an entire final 8 page paper on Man Ray's works).

Now I begin the exciting adventure of researching this peice to see if the signature is athentic and if so, how much the signed poster is worth. As nerdy as it sounds, I am very excited to see what I discover.

The question is..... how much would you pay for these sweet lips?

Man Down!

Yesterday for Father's Day my parents, John, Ebi and I went up into the High Uintahs for a hike, a picnic, and a wheelin' session... little did we know that two of us would also go for a swim!

John and I went on an hour ride on the wheeler, when we got back to base camp we pulled up by my dad's truck and noticed something shocking and surprising! There was a pair of men's underwear hanging from the rear view mirror of the truck. John looked at me and said, "I wonder what we missed?"

As we climbed off the wheeler and walked past the truck we noticed that not only were there underwear, but there were also shorts and socks and a shirt... "what happened?" I exclaimed as we hustled to camp for what I was sure would be a great story.

When we hiked down the flat rocks to the river and to camp, we noticed that my dad was in different clothes and Ebi was soaking wet.. "what happened to you two dad?" My mom burst out laughing!!

Aparently My dad and Ebi were trying to cross the river (dad was carrying her) when my dad stepped into a deep river hole and both him and Ebi went down and got fully submerged in the river. Ebi paddled and swam out, but my dad was stuck, his elbow was jammed in between two rocks! "the Cameras! The Cameras" he yelled as he tried to get up!

My mom, now temporarily blind from laughter of witnessing such a scene, yelled "are you headed down stream?"

My dad finally got unstuck and with his pride a little rattled and his clothes soaked to the bone, marched squishly out of the water!!

Everyone was fine, A scraped elbow, a sore tailbone, a heap of wet clothes and a wet pug. The only two consequences of the fall was 1. the death of one of the cameras. My dad's. Mom's camera was ok, and 2. that I didn't get to be there to witness it! Maybe next time!!

Poor dad! An hour after the "incident," he finally thought it was funny and had a good laugh!! My mom has continued to laugh about it since!!

*You probably should know that we are somewhat of an accident prone family. Not always graceful or keeping an eye out for deep river holes, one of the many good things about our family is that no matter how many times you spill something on you, knock something over, trip, fall down, break something or fall into a river, there is always someone nearby to laugh at you. Keeps a person humble!

As they say (whoever "they" is), 'laughter is the best medicine' and let's just say our family is in VERY good health!!

Hope you had a happy father's day anyway dad! We love you!!

Ruby

Today my sweet cat Ruby died. She was 19. Ruby was a major part of my life since I was 5. She looked after me, loved me and slept in-between my legs every night for 15 years.

I got Ruby for Christmas after months and months of telling my parents that all I wanted for Christmas from santa was a kitty!! Sure enough on Christmas morning "santa" made my wish come true! I could hear tiny meows from the basement. I crept downstairs to see what santa had left me, I slowly and quietly opened the door and all of a sudden a tiny long red haired creature shot up the stairs like a firework!! I ran after her, I was so excited!! She cuddled up to the wall a little scared of the crazy child running after her... so I sat on the top of the step, calmed down and whispered to her, "Come here kitty kitty." She snuck over to check me out and after she decided I was ok, she jumped into my lap and cuddled with me!! From that moment on her and I have been best friends! She is the best cat ever!!

I will post some pictures of Ruby later... for now, goodbye Rotton Ruby. We love you so much and will miss you! I'll always remember my naughty red fire ball!! I love you
