I'm on SMAC... not exactly what you are thinking

The Student Museum Advisory Coucil (SMAC)

I realize I am a nerd.. here are me and my fellow museum "nerd" friends (even though we think we are badasses considering the rest of the museum community) Pay close attention - we are the future of the industry! God help us!

Back To School

This week John and I are back to school, back to chaos!

For me personally, it is only now as my schooling is coming to an end that I realize how much I am going to miss it! Sitting in a dark room looking at art really isn't as bad as I previously thought, in fact it is really fun! Masters anyone??

Boston

This past week John and I accompanied the rest of the Ream and Cranny clans to attend John's grandma's funeral in Boston. Granny Cranny was an amazing women who lived to be 102! What a wonderful long life she had! Despite the circumstances, we were able to sneak away and do one of the things I love to do most in the world - explore a new city! Here are some highlights!!

I love Louisa May Alcott's book Little Women, it is one of my favorite all time books! I had to go to Concord and see where the beloved author and story lived!

The Rocky Show: Saturday's Voyeur '07

Last night John and I went with my mom and dad to the Salt Lake Acting Company for a real treat of Salt Lake satire and fun! The Salt Lake Acting Company has been putting on the play, Saturday's Voyeur (not to be confused with a movie of a similar title) for almost 30 years. S.V. takes issues and events from the past year that are exclusive and rather unique to Utah and it's quirky behavior! This play takes an absolute naughty and hilarious look at the strange political, social, environmental and religious situations that makes our state unforgettably and uniquely Utah! This year focuses on Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson and is a tribute and goodbye to the great and controversial figure! All of the events are based on fact (fact on crack!), and watching these crazy people, somehow it isn't that hard to believe!? Goodbye Rocky, I don't care what everyone says - I still like you!!

thanks for the fun and enlightening evening mom and dad! It was so fun!

Even more from the inner workings of the museum

I recently was put in charge of researching and purchasing a number of Latin Artist's work for the museum's education collection. Everything from paintings to sculptures.. I wanted to display a couple of my favorites:

Dancing Skeletons for La Dia de los Muertos by. Guillermo Colmenero

St. Francis Santos Figure by. Ricardo Salazar (St. Francis is the patron saint of animals, nature and gardens - you can understand why I like it!)

Saint Ursula by Theresa and Richard Montoya (Saint Ursula is the patron saint of teachers, universities and plague-like illness)

More from the UMFA

I have been very very busy at the museum! Here are three of the objects that I have just completed mounting and conserving!

This is so funny! I took my gloves off after handling an object, I threw it down and went to work on something else.. when I came back, I noticed how the glove landed and I just had to take a picture of it! Hilarious!

Aztec Brooch and Byzantine Cross

Ushabti (these little figures are Egyptian and were buried with the dead to act as slaves and servants in the afterlife. In some Pharoahs tombs, thousands of these little statues were found!)
